Altus Group Announced as Successful Proposal in TfNSW Gateway to Innovate Program

Altus Group is proud to announce our recognition as a "Successful Proposal” in the Gateway to Innovate program by Transport for NSW, announced at today’s Roads Australia Luncheon in Sydney by The Hon John Graham MLC.

Gateway to Innovate is an initiative designed to foster innovation within the construction sector, a field that has historically lagged behind other industries in terms of productivity and digital transformation. According to the McKinsey Global Institute's 2017 report, productivity growth in construction has trailed other major industries by 25% over the past three decades, making it the second worst-performing sector for digital innovation.

The Gateway to Innovate program aims to address this challenge by providing a platform for organisations to propose and trial new tools and processes aimed at enhancing productivity and efficiency in infrastructure projects. Earlier this year, Transport for NSW called on industry leaders to present innovative solutions that can be tested and potentially implemented to drive long-term productivity gains.

At Altus Group, our mission is to create safer, smarter, and more sustainable work zones. We believe that leveraging technology to solve real-world problems can significantly improve the lives of workers, enhance community safety, and contribute to a cleaner environment. Our participation in this program is not just about boosting efficiency; it is about setting a new standard for work zone management in Australia.

One of our flagship innovations is Intellitag, a groundbreaking solution that creates a digital twin of traffic management assets such as road signs, cones, and barriers. This technology shifts the focus from routine visual inspections to event-based maintenance, allowing teams to concentrate on more critical tasks. Intellitag uses sensors and cloud-based technology to detect issues in real-time, triggering maintenance only when necessary. This approach minimises resource-intensive manual checks, reduces risks to personnel, and improves response times to hazards.

By transitioning from routine checks to event-based maintenance, Intellitag significantly boosts productivity. It enables traffic management teams to focus on high-value tasks rather than repetitive site inspections, optimising labour allocation and alleviating workforce demands. Additionally, Intellitag supports industry innovation by integrating a Carbon Calculator, which measures environmental savings and reduces the project's carbon footprint, aligning with our sustainability goals.

As part of a broader platform, Intellitag and our Workzone Digitisation solution will facilitate further innovation over time, supporting new use cases as detection and communication protocols are standardised.

Altus Group is proud to be at the forefront of this transformative journey, setting a new benchmark for safety, efficiency, and environmental responsibility in infrastructure projects. We thank Transport for NSW for this opportunity and invite industry stakeholders to join us in this exciting venture and explore the potential of Intellitag to revolutionise work zone management.
