INSIGHTS FROM COMPASS IOT TRACK DAY 2024
The Compass IoT Track Day 2024, held at Sandown Racecourse, was a groundbreaking event that showcased the future of road safety and traffic management through digital innovation.
As a proud sponsor, Altus Group provided equipment for five pivotal experiments including our Workzone Digitisation system, ensuring attendees experienced firsthand the transformative impact of cutting-edge technology.
With over 150 transport professionals from NSW, VIC, SA, and QLD state government transport authorities and the private sector in attendance, the event provided an unparalleled opportunity to engage with real-world road safety experiments. Attendees also gained valuable insights from presentations on the application of Compass Connected Vehicle data and digital innovations in temporary traffic management workzones across Australia.
IMMERSIVE ROAD SAFETY EXPERIMENTS
The day featured five interactive experiments designed to simulate a variety of real-world road conditions:
Navigating a Roundabout – Understanding vehicle flow and driver behaviour in complex intersections.
Experiencing Speed and G-Forces Around Curves – Analysing vehicle stability and driver response under varying speeds.
Testing Stopping Distances and Harsh Braking – Evaluating braking system effectiveness in different scenarios.
Swerving and Sudden Lane Changes – With Altus Group’s Workzone Digitisation capturing incursions, this experiment highlighted the role of digital tools in safety monitoring.
Continuous Acceleration and Deceleration – Assessing driver response and vehicle performance under fluctuating speed conditions.
HIGHLIGHTING DIGITAL INNOVATION IN TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT
A standout moment was Experiment 4, where Altus Group’s Workzone Digitisation system was employed to capture incursions during sudden lane changes and swerving. This demonstration highlighted the effectiveness of our technology in enhancing real-time traffic monitoring and safety management.
Additionally, Roger Poeth from Highway Resource Solutions (HRS), our digital partner, delivered an engaging presentation on the global adoption of digital technology in traffic management. He emphasised the critical role of these technologies in revolutionising road safety and efficiency in Australia.
LEVERAGING COMPASS CONNECTED VEHICLE DATA
The event also provided a platform to discuss the transformative applications of Compass Connected Vehicle data in Australia. This real-time data delivers crucial insights into vehicle movements and road conditions, enabling transport professionals to make informed decisions, implement proactive safety measures, and enhance overall traffic management strategies.
LOOKING AHEAD TO A SAFER, SMARTER ROAD NETWORK
Altus Group remains steadfast in its commitment to advancing road safety through Workzone Digitisation and ongoing collaboration with the road industry. The insights gained from Compass IoT Track Day 2024 will undoubtedly play a pivotal role in shaping safer, more intelligent, and more efficient road networks across Australia.
