Altus Group Celebrates Multiple Nominations at the 2024 TMAA Excellence Awards
The Traffic Management Association of Australia (TMAA) Excellence Awards celebrate the exceptional efforts of individuals and organisations within the Traffic Management industry. These awards highlight achievements, innovation, and excellence in temporary traffic management projects, initiatives, and the people driving them. This year, the Altus Group is proud to receive seven nominations across various categories.
Lisa Hooper, from Altus Traffic WA, has been recognised as the WA State Finalist for the National Traffic Controller of the Year award due to her professionalism, safety consciousness, and exceptional leadership. Lisa is known for making decisive calls to ensure safety for all involved, leading by example, and fostering a positive work environment. Her excellent communication skills and collaborative approach with clients, colleagues, and other traffic control companies make her an outstanding traffic controller deserving of this recognition.
Tony Moore, from Altus Traffic TAS, has been recognised as the TAS State Finalist for the National Traffic Controller of the Year award due to his extensive experience, leadership, and dedication to safety and teamwork. With over seven years at Altus Hobart, Tony has proven himself as a reliable and skilled team leader for major events and daily traffic control operations. His strong communication skills, commitment to safety, and proactive approach to site setups make him a standout. Tony is also known for his willingness to mentor new starters, foster a positive team environment, and embrace new technology, all while maintaining high standards of professionalism and client relations.
A special shout-out also to Dominic Brady, from Altus Traffic NSW, recognised as Highly Commended for Traffic Controller of the Year in NSW! Dominic’s inspiring career began in cultural heritage protection and social work, where he made a difference in communities. Since transitioning to traffic management in 2018, he has become a standout leader, managing major projects and developing innovative tools to enhance safety and efficiency. Well done Dominic!
Josh Deen embodies excellence in his role with the Altus Group, demonstrating outstanding leadership, dedication, and expertise in traffic management operations. With a decade of experience in the industry, Josh has risen through the ranks, showcasing a commitment to safety, compliance, and continuous improvement. His proactive approach to problem-solving, as evidenced during critical projects like the Sydney Metro shutdown, and his leadership in training and mentoring others, highlight his invaluable contributions to smooth, efficient, and safe operations. Josh's efforts to foster teamwork, promote positive workplace culture, and enhance operational processes make him a deserving finalist for the Operation Team Member of the Year award.
Ben Wiffen is a well-deserved candidate for Traffic Management Designer of the Year, with 14 years of traffic management experience, including seven as a designer. His passion for improving safety and achieving innovative outcomes has been the cornerstone of his career. Ben combines advanced qualifications with a unique understanding of AGTTM and TCAWS principles, creating plans that seamlessly integrate the best of NSW and Austroads practices. Known for his creative problem-solving, Ben has led initiatives that reduced injury rates through improved planning and design. As a mentor, Ben has trained new designers, inspired peers across states, and fostered a culture of excellence, solidifying his role as a leader in traffic management design.

Darryl Campbell is also a deserving Finalist for the Traffic Management Trainer of the Year award, with extensive expertise in civil construction, traffic management, and safety. Since obtaining his credentials in 2012, Darryl has been committed to upskilling professionals through engaging and impactful training sessions. Joining CivilEdge in early 2024, Darryl has delivered a range of TTMNF skillsets across Tasmania, employing innovative methods that connect theoretical knowledge with real-world applications. His ability to personalise learning, foster interactive discussions, and provide hands-on support ensures trainees leave with a thorough understanding of safety protocols and practical skills. Darryl’s dedication to continuous improvement and creating a safer industry workforce cements his place as an outstanding trainer.
Finally, CivilEdge itself has been recognised as a Finalist for the Traffic Management RTO of the Year award. This nomination highlights CivilEdge's commitment to delivering comprehensive, compliant, and consistent training programs that set the standard for excellence in the traffic management industry.
